STEM Education for Educators (SEE)

Our training modules prepare educators to lead a STEM program.

Certified by the Texas Education Agency; provides up to 26 CPE hours in the State of Texas.

What You’ll Learn

In this program, educators will learn how to code with the micro:bit, and be guided through projects that they can complete with their students.

The micro:bit is specifically designed to encourage children to get actively involved in writing software for computers and building new things, rather than being consumers of media.

Admission Fees: $245/registrant

Program Description

This program prepares teachers with everything they need to know about the micro:bit, how to program it, and how to incorporate these lessons into their curriculum.

The BBC micro:bit can be used for all sorts of cool creations; from robots to musical instruments, the possibilities are endless. This little device has an incredible wealth of features, like 25 red LED lights that can flash messages. There are two programmable buttons that can be used to control games or can be used as switches. The BBC micro:bit can detect motion and tell you which direction you’re heading in, and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices.

By the end of this program teachers will know how to write programs for the micro:bit using the block editor. No prior coding or technical experience is needed – the program is suitable for everyone. Each participant will also keep the micro:bit they learned with.

Advanced Modules

As part of the SEE program, the last two modules focus on extension projects with the BBC micro:bit.

Teachers will be shown how to program the micro:bit to interact with other electronics, such as robot cars, LED light displays, and more. Connecting the micro:bit to other electronics helps teachers make interdisciplinary connections between computer science and the arts, science, mathematics, and more. Basic background knowledge about the micro:bit is recommended before these modules, which is why we suggest completing the program in order; in particular, taking Modules 1-4 before attempting to complete Modules 5-6.
